Forget Me Not
Nazi Germany was terrible for a variety of groups, those of Jewish heritage being most impacted by the atrocities. Other groups were also persecuted, including the disabled, Catholics and Freemasons. The forget me not flower was adopted by the Grand Lodge of the Sun (Zur Sonne) in 1926 as a substitute for the Square and Compass. This allowed men to identify potential brothers under a regime which suppressed anything not Nazi. Some brothers were involved in resistance movements and smuggling Jews to safety. It is estimated that 80,000-200,000 Freemasons were executed by the Nazis.
